Part 2 Request for Noticeboard Funding
Two noticeboards will be installed to provide important information to visitors. On arrival, at the entrance, there will be information on the intentions of the project and the source of funding.
There will be general information concerning health and safety with specific warnings against swimming in the river, which is only a few hundred metres downstream from the sewage treatment outlet for the whole of Tavistock town. It will also have opening times, contact details, requests to take litter home and similar information.
The second noticeboard will be placed a short distance into the first field so that it will be encountered soon after commencing the walk, and will focus on educational information, wildlife to look out for, ecological vulnerabilities of the valley and where to find further information.
The application includes a request to make benches and picnic table vandal-proof.
Based on the criteria set out in the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Management Plan 2019 – 2024, this project will contribute to Theme 1 Place, specifically to Biodiversity and Geodiversity; and River and Estuaries. Also to Theme 2 People and Prosperity, in the categories Access, Recreation and Tourism; along with Communication Education and Awareness.
It will do so by protecting and improving ecological diversity along a significant stretch of the River Tavy and providing a baseline map for the future. By creating new access, it will offer possibilities for social engagement and recreational activity, developing a resource for improving people’s health and well-being. We have consulted with ornithologists and local wildlife trusts and hope to develop the opportunity for ‘Days Out in the Valley’ and contact with local schools.
