Summary of proposal inc. proposed outputs
Planting 52m hedgerow with variety of native and other hedgerow trees and shrubs.
This project is to improve the biodiversity of the land and to provide more forage for pollinators. We purchased the land only in July 2023 and I have 8 beehives installed there (3 are only temporary). Our long-term goal is to build up a profitable beekeeping enterprise and alongside this to create a productive small-scale organic market garden, allowing space for wild life to flourish too. This project is the first stage towards that goal.

There are a number of beekeepers in the area and honeybees compete with other native pollinators such as bumblebees and hoverflies.
This hedgerow will allow them more space to feed and thrive.
Increased biodiversity and improved habitats for wildlife (birds, small mammals, insects).
This project will enhance the beauty of the landscape by hiding a post and wire stock fence with a colourful, living hedge.
It will enhance the biodiversity of the Tamar Valley National Landscape by bringing in additional hedge species and adding to those already there, and providing additional pollen sources for insects and birds
It will improve the connectivity between the habitats of the existing woodland and hedgerows.
These are in line with objectives outlined in 5.4 of section 5 of the Management Plan, “Biodiversity and Geodiversity”.
