A Working Landscape
Journey though the Tamar Valley, and we can see how it is a working landscape.
People have made their living here for thousands of years, whether by mining, working the woodlands, market gardening or farming.


Today, farmland covers almost 13,000ha (65%) of the Tamar Valley National Landscape.
Within this working landscape of tilled and cultivated fields is a rich mosaic of semi-natural habitats – deciduous woodlands, saltmarsh, reedbeds and heath alongside man-made features like orchards, ponds and hedgerows.
Working with landowners
67% of the Tamar Valley National Landscape is regarded as farmland.
We work with landowners to encourage Nature friendly farming and using their land to benefit Nature, Climate, Place and People.

Farming in Protected Landscapes.
Since 2021, the Tamar Valley National Landscape has enable over 100 projects that have benefited Nature, funded by the Department of Farming and Rural Affairs.
